Its another sunny weekend in the UK (yes, we do have them from time to time) and how should I spend the day? By drinking beer in the garden of course!
This week’s beer, Rothaus Hefe Weizen is a wheat based beer which when pouring, creates a deceptive head, luring you into a false sense of security by, at first, having no head until the last bit of the glass when a huge head appears on top of the cloudy amber nectar below and overflows the glass.
With the spill mopped up it’s time to taste it. As I bring the glass to my face I am immediately hit with the distinct wheat base of the beer which is over powering in it’s scent. Mouth feel is OK, there is slight carbonation in this beverage which helps to make it not feel like you’re just drinking a glass of water while not being too much that you’re drinking fizzy pop.
It took me a couple of mouthfuls to understand the flavour of this beer as, each time all I could taste was the wheat and a little sweetness mixed in.
Unfortunately this time, not such a great beer for me as I don’t tend to like the wheat based beers however, if you like them then I would suggest you give this a try as it may be more up your street than mine.
